Carrier oil
Jojoba oil as a carrier for essential oils
Jojoba is technically a liquid wax rather than an oil, which makes it remarkably resistant to going rancid. Its wax esters resemble the ones skin produces itself, so it feels balanced rather than heavy — a favourite base for facial oils and long-lasting roll-on perfumes.
Best for
- Facial oils, all skin types
- Roll-on perfume bases
- Hair ends & scalp
- Blends you want to keep a long time
Using it with essential oils
Facial blends sit at 0.5–1% — around 3–6 drops of essential oil per 30 ml of jojoba.

Things to watch
Generally well tolerated; patch-test as with any carrier. Unrefined jojoba can thicken slightly in the cold — that’s normal.
Common questions
- Is jojoba oil good for essential oils?
- Yes. It’s light, absorbs smoothly, and is so stable that blends made with it keep far longer than with most plant oils.
- Why is jojoba called a wax?
- Chemically it’s made of wax esters rather than the triglycerides that make up most plant oils — which is why it barely oxidises.
Typical makeup figures are commonly published ranges; real oils vary with origin and processing. Always patch-test, and dilute essential oils for the person and the use. Compare all carrier oils →
