The Plant
Carrot Seed comes not from the familiar orange vegetable but from Daucus carota, wild carrot, also known as Queen Anne’s lace — the same species from which cultivated carrots were originally bred, but here the oil is distilled from the plant’s seeds rather than its root. Wild carrot grows widely across Europe, western Asia, and naturalized areas of North America, often recognizable by its delicate, lace-like white flower clusters.
Extraction & Flavor
Carrot Seed Vitality is steam-distilled from the seed of the wild carrot plant, giving it an earthy, slightly woody, root-like aroma that’s more unusual than most culinary Vitality oils. Carotol, a sesquiterpene alcohol, makes up much of the aroma and accounts for its distinctly earthy character.
In the Kitchen
It’s one of the less common flavoring oils — a drop can be used sparingly in root-vegetable dishes or taken in a veggie capsule as part of a broader Vitality routine rather than as an everyday seasoning. It doesn’t taste like fresh carrot; the flavor is closer to dried root and earth than to the sweet vegetable itself.
Aromatically
The standard Carrot Seed bottle is more often found in skin-care blends than in the diffuser, valued for its grounding, earthy note that pairs well with floral oils in facial formulations.
Usage Note
Because the flavor is strong and unfamiliar to most palates, start with a single drop and taste before adding to a full recipe — it’s easy to overwhelm a dish with an oil this unusual and concentrated.
