The Plant
Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) is a member of the ginger family native to the evergreen rainforests of southern India, where its seed pods are still hand-harvested — the plant doesn’t fruit uniformly, so pods are picked individually as they ripen, one of the reasons cardamom has long ranked among the world’s more expensive spices by weight, alongside vanilla and saffron.
Extraction & Flavor
Cardamom Vitality is steam-distilled from the seed pods and delivers the same warm, sweet, slightly camphoraceous aroma prized in Scandinavian baking and chai-style drinks, concentrated into a single drop. Alpha-terpinyl acetate gives it a soft, fruity smoothness, while 1,8-cineole (the same compound found in eucalyptus) supplies its warm, slightly cooling top note.
In the Kitchen
It pairs naturally with Cinnamon Bark Vitality and Clove Vitality in coffee, spiced breads, and homemade chai, and works as a concentrated substitute for ground cardamom in recipes that call for it — useful given how quickly ground cardamom loses potency compared to the whole pod or a well-sealed oil.
Wellness Routines
Cardamom has a long history as a digestive-support spice in South Asian and Middle Eastern culinary traditions, often chewed whole after a meal, and a drop in a veggie capsule is a common after-meal addition alongside other Vitality oils.
Usage Note
Cardamom’s flavor is strong relative to its price-per-pod cost — start with less than a recipe’s usual ground-spice measurement, since a single drop of oil typically outperforms a full teaspoon of the ground spice.
