PanAway
A cooling, minty blend of wintergreen, helichrysum, clove, and peppermint, formulated specifically for post-activity massage.
How to use it
Dilute at least 50% in a carrier oil before massaging into the desired area.
The wintergreen content makes it unsuitable for diffusing or broad aromatic use.
In this blend
Built around wintergreen, helichrysum, clove, and peppermint.
What it’s designed for
PanAway combines wintergreen, helichrysum, clove, and peppermint into a sharp, cooling, minty-medicinal blend that’s almost exclusively used topically rather than diffused. It’s one of the most purpose-built blends in the Young Living lineup, formulated with post-activity massage in mind rather than general fragrance.
The oils in it
- Wintergreen — supplies the blend’s signature cooling, minty-medicinal aroma, historically the source of “oil of wintergreen” long used in traditional topical liniments before synthetic methyl salicylate took over most of the market.
- Helichrysum — adds a honey-like, herbaceous depth beneath the sharper top notes.
- Clove — contributes warmth and a spicy undertone.
- Peppermint — reinforces the cooling sensation alongside wintergreen.
When and how people use it
On skin: PanAway is potent and should always be diluted at least 50% in a carrier oil before application — many people use it directly on tired muscles or joints after exercise, massaged in with a carrier oil.
Why it’s not diffused
The wintergreen component is roughly 90% methyl salicylate, the same active compound found in some topical pain-relief products. That makes PanAway effective for targeted massage but not appropriate for diffusing or broad aromatic use.
Safety note
Methyl salicylate is toxic in even small ingested amounts, and this blend should be kept well out of reach of children and never applied without dilution. If you or a family member takes blood thinners, check with a physician before use — see our allergy and safety guide for general precautions.
Sourcing note
Wintergreen content and clove concentration vary by supplier batch, making a documented, quality-controlled source especially important for this blend.
