What It’s Designed For
Cool Azul is Young Living’s cooling topical line for muscle and joint comfort, built around menthol and wintergreen for a strong, icy sensation on contact — closer in feel to a menthol-based sports rub than to a typical diluted essential oil. It comes in a few formats — roll-on, cream, and gel — aimed at athletes, weekend warriors, and anyone dealing with post-activity soreness after a workout, long hike, or physically demanding day.
The Key Ingredients
Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens or, more often commercially, sourced from sweet birch, Betula lenta) is naturally high in methyl salicylate — the same compound family as aspirin — which produces its warming-then-cooling sensation and has a long folk history as a topical rub for sore muscles among Indigenous peoples in North America. Menthol, typically derived from peppermint or corn mint, supplies the immediate icy-cool sensation on contact.
How to Use It
Apply directly to the area of concern following the product label; these formats are pre-formulated at an appropriate strength, so no additional dilution is needed the way it would be with a standalone essential oil.
Safety Note
Because wintergreen’s methyl salicylate content is chemically related to aspirin, Cool Azul should be avoided by anyone sensitive to salicylates, on blood-thinning medication, pregnant, or applying near broken skin, eyes, or mucous membranes — and it should be kept well out of reach of young children, for whom methyl salicylate ingestion is a genuine poisoning risk.
Sourcing Note
Because Cool Azul is a proprietary, pre-formulated product line rather than a simple carrier-oil dilution, buying it directly from Young Living is the practical way to get a consistent, correctly balanced result batch to batch.
