Thieves
Young Living's flagship spice blend — clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus, and rosemary — designed for immune-season diffusing and household use.
How to use it
3–5 drops for a warm, spiced atmosphere at home.
Dilute heavily (1% or less) — the spice oils can irritate skin.
In this blend
A warm, spicy blend of clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus, and rosemary.
Thieves is Young Living’s best-known proprietary blend, combining clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus radiata, and rosemary into a warm, spicy aroma that’s become one of the most recognizable scents in the essential oil world.
The legend behind the name
The name comes from a folklore story about a group of spice traders and thieves in medieval Europe who reportedly used a blend of aromatic oils to protect themselves while robbing the homes of plague victims. Whether the tale is historical fact or marketing legend, Young Living built an entire product ecosystem — cleaners, hand soap, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, and more — around the five-oil combination.
Aroma and composition
Clove is the dominant note, warm and intensely spicy; lemon brightens the top; cinnamon bark deepens the spice further; eucalyptus radiata adds a fresh, camphoraceous edge; and rosemary contributes an herbaceous undertone that keeps the blend from feeling one-dimensional.
In the diffuser
3–5 drops delivers a warm, spicy, unmistakably “wellness season” aroma — a favorite in households through the fall and winter months, and a common choice heading into cold-and-flu season.
Around the house
Thieves is the backbone of countless DIY cleaning-spray and hand-sanitizer recipes, usually mixed a few drops into water, vinegar, or a carrier base for household surfaces.
On skin
This blend contains cinnamon bark and clove, both hot oils that can irritate skin even at moderate dilution. Keep any topical use to 1% or less in a carrier oil, and always patch-test first — see our allergy and safety guide.
Sourcing note
Because Thieves is a proprietary ratio, the only way to reliably reproduce the aroma and intended balance is to buy the named blend rather than mixing the five oils yourself from unknown sources — commercial “thieves-style” blends vary widely in quality and ratio.
